New Car

Well, I managed to get a new (to me) car, after dad and I decided to park my old one. Nothing too special, but there were a few interesting bits I took some photos of over the past few days.

First thing (after a thorough cleaning) I did was go to the dealership and get a new key made based on the key code it had originally. Here’s a photo showing the original key from ’93, and the new one from the dealer.

Then I went to NAPA and got some of the standard things. Windshield wipers, burnt out bulbs, etc. Also, while I was there, I asked the guy if he had any experience with that stuff you rub on your headlights to make them clear rather than totally yellow and opaque. He said he’s had good luck with the stuff, so I got some, and it really is impressive. Look at the results I’ve had. These photos were taken after cleaning one headlight, and before the other. First photo is before treatment, and the second, after.

Then I went to the hardware store to pick up a few bits as the release button from the parking brake handle was missing, I’ve temporarily replaced it with a bolt. At some point in the future, I’ll find a junkyard, and get a stock one. I just don’t want to pay the dealer $150 for a new handle. So a few dollars in hardware store bits makes a lot more sense.

Anyway, there’s still things to do, but in the past couple days I feel like I’ve made good progress.
