{"id":2615,"date":"2017-02-14T22:10:34","date_gmt":"2017-02-15T06:10:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/digitalnigel.com\/wordpress\/?p=2615"},"modified":"2017-02-14T22:10:34","modified_gmt":"2017-02-15T06:10:34","slug":"generator-box","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/digitalnigel.com\/wordpress\/?p=2615","title":{"rendered":"Generator Box"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A little while ago I picked up a generator for use in power outages to keep things like the fridge and computer equipment going in the case of an outage that&#8217;s lasting more than a few hours.<\/p>\n<p>While, one of the fancy super quiet Honda generators would be great, the cost meant that I got a more conventional generator, that&#8217;s just a bit louder. While it&#8217;s not horrendously loud, quieting it as much as possible is still a benefit.<\/p>\n<p>A common means to do this is by building a sound dampening box, so that&#8217;s what I did!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/digitalnigel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_4690.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2616\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalnigel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_4690-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/digitalnigel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_4690-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/digitalnigel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_4690-113x150.jpg 113w, https:\/\/digitalnigel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_4690-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I still want to add some sound foam on the inside to dampen things a bit more, but for now it&#8217;s a plywood box that gets placed over the generator, with baffles to reduce the sound output.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/digitalnigel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_4699.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2617\" src=\"https:\/\/digitalnigel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_4699-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/digitalnigel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_4699-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/digitalnigel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_4699-113x150.jpg 113w, https:\/\/digitalnigel.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/IMG_4699-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Placed in the back yard, with the box over it, exhaust side facing towards the laurels, the sound was reduced by a bit more than half (4dB).
