Break In Period

My new car hit 1,000 miles on Friday morning, so the engine is officially out of it’s “Break in period.” Granted, I got it with 213 miles on it (Must have had a good number of test drives), so really only the latter 787 miles were mine. Anyway, I’m loving it so far, so I see it as the first thousand of many.

New Car

Well, I’ve got a shiny new car. My old car was having some mechanical issues, and it was going to cost more to fix them than I was willing to put into it (more than the car is worth), and had some savings I could put as a decent down payment, so I got a new 2012 Subaru Outback.

Most of all I’m pleased about having a car that should be reliable and last quite a while, For once having a car where nothing is worn out or broken and last but not least having a warranty where if something does break I can take it to the dealer and have THEM fix it.

I’m not opposed to doing some work on a car, but it gets old really fast when you just need the thing to work, or can’t necessarily trust it to go X miles without something breaking.

Anyway, to summarize. I’m quite pleased.

Small Updates

Hey, just a couple of quick tidbits. First, I built a new shelfey thing for outside. I plan on getting some plastic battery boxes, and putting my big lead acid storage batteries for the solar panel on it. For right now it’s just got my automatic antenna tuner.

Second, is that I got some small (1mm) carbide drill bits for my dremel. This will let me put through holes in the PCBs I etch. Woo!

Anyway, that is all.

Mah Laser

Been playing with some neat stuff lately, including a shiny (haha, get it? Shiny?) new laser Putting out about 1W of concentrated light. More than enough to burn some stuff. Here’s some pics!

Also, please don’t try this at home. A 1W laser WILL burn you, it will blind you, it will not be fun. I have laser safety goggles, and keep the laser in a vice pointed at a safe target.

Hey all! You’ve probably noticed that I’m using a new blogging system. I finally got tired of maintaining the old one, so this is what happens. Anyway, so far I’m pretty pleased, and hope you are as well.

Also note that some content from the older posts may be listed as [UNAVAILABLE]. When transitioning the systems, I went through each post and confirmed all the links and whatnot worked properly. If I couldn’t find a suitable replacement for broken links, I marked them as [UNAVAILABLE]. So, sorry that totally awesome thing I was referencing isn’t there anymore. Sucks to be you.
